Harnessing the Power of Coaching

Performance Development has widely evolved over the years.  New strategies and methodologies have come into play, providing flexibility in the development of different individuals with varying personalities, skills, and experience.  Amidst new breakthroughs and improvements in practices, one vital aspect remains, and still proves to be the most profound – coaching.

Coaching, while considered to be easily executable, requires skill and expertise.  A number of skilled individuals fail due to improper execution, or the lack of it. Progress update sessions are often mistaken as coaching sessions, and while it is an avenue, without its core components- awareness of the coaching agenda, understanding the coaching context, developing action plans, a commonly agreed goal, and a commitment,  a mere pat on the back after providing an update on the improvement on a key metric, does not count at all.

Coaching on numbers and on behavior are also often misconstrued, leading to failure on addressing the real need.  Coaches tend to deliver the goal, but fail to expound on what is being targeted, and do not get the full agreement on the one sided action plan.  Critical components were missed, and so are the desired outcomes.

What are the factors affecting the effectivity of coaching?  Think of the 5Ws and 1H, and see how each contributes to its success:

When
Do you make time for coaching?  If you do, how often do you do it?

Where?
Where do you conduct your coaching?  Is it in a conducive environment?

What?
Do you set an agenda for coaching?  Is the coachee aware of what the one on one is about?

Who?
Does the coaching require more than the coach and coachee?  Is a triad coaching in place?

Why?
Has the goal been identified?  What do you plan to achieve in this session?

How?
What method will you be using to achieve a common goal?  How will you arrive at an action plan?

New and revised models are practiced across the globe, and are used differently by individuals of varying roles.  While models vary in its naming convention, the purposes of coaching- to reinforce,  refine, and redirect behaviors do not change.  One model may be more explicit than the other, or another may be more basic than required.  Bay Hewitt provides a Coaching model and structure designed to allow effective communication within teams, equip leaders with the skillsets for proper feedback delivery, and take mentoring to a deeper level.

Growing Roots and Harvesting the Best Produce with Bay Hewitt

Companies invest both time and money in recruiting, training, skills optimization, and retention of individuals to take on a specific role within the organization. These individuals are envisioned to grow with the company and share  the competencies and expertise gained during their tenure.

In the process of grooming these individuals, which include delegation of special projects and tasks and shadowing mentors, a critical component which plays a huge part in the success of these future leaders are commonly not factored in due to some limitations.

Leadership Skills training is a key factor in ensuring that these aspiring leaders are honed to their full potential and are ready to take on the job. While a number of people are born leaders, some individuals need help in tapping the inner leader within them.

Readiness and willingness both play a crucial role in sending these future leaders to their target destination. While the mentors influence the type of management which their mentees are highly likely to adapt, leadership styles still vary and complement different personalities. Understanding the team’s motivation and driving each member to achieve excellence should also be included in each leader’s kit.

Relevant trainings focusing on leadership skills, or commonly known as management courses are offered to both incumbents and high potential employees. Many of these are offered in sessions designed to provide a step by step process in executing the skills while immersing in each division of the course.

Some of the trainings offered by Bay Hewitt include programs on Performance Improvement Excellence, Delivering Feedback, Goals Setting, Effective Communication, People Development, Strategic Thinking, and other custom trainings that are specially designed to fit each industry.

Bay Hewitt provides a channel to help achieve this vision through the number of programs available for your industry's key players and aspiring leaders. Contact us today for the list of programs we have that suits your growing organization’s needs. You may call us at (02) 925-1229 or email us at info@bayhewitt.com

Supervisory Skills Training: You Need It More Than Ever

When you've promoted people in the organization, it can be one of the greatest testaments of a healthy culture in the company. Promotion from within the ranks is one of the best motivational tools you can ever use to encourage people to do their best.

For those who rose up, getting promoted is one thing, succeeding is another. While promotion can lead to better morale, deploying employees into teams to handle people without the right training can be downright disastrous. Supervising and managing a team is a new set of skills that must be taught, mentored on, and further honed.

We've seen a lot of people who failed at handling teams because they do not possess the right mix of supervisory knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors to successfully manage their people. While they may have been star performers in their previous roles, the functions of planning, organizing, leading, staffing, controlling, and performance managing are very important to learn.

Bay Hewitt's supervisory skills training called Fundamental Supervisory Skills can help you and your organization succeed at promoting high potential people and inculcating in them the desired leadership characteristics to lead teams, translating to excellent performance and business results. This will help your new supervisors and junior managers become best at what they're about to do.

So whether you're in Manila, Makati, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Dumaguete, parts of Visayas and Mindanao, contact Bay Hewitt today at info@bayhewitt.com or number (02) 925-1BAY (229) to inquire about our Fundamental Supervisory Skills program.

Bay Hewitt will take care of the transition from front liner employees to successful supervisors and managers.

Leadership and Management Training Courses

If you're wondering what's the best way to improve over-all organizational performance, don't look too far. It might just be all about equipping your supervisors, managers, and leaders in the company with the right knowledge, skills, and behaviors to run a team. We've seen so many companies wanting to get trained on sales, negotiation, and customer service but they've forgotten to help the very people who will enable all these business activities and ensure their success.

In the Philippines, it's sad to hear that many supervisors or managers are described as inexperienced or immature. Leadership is all about people management. It's not necessarily about your position, your age, or tenure in the company; it's all about having the right blend of competencies so you can positively influence a team to perform high.

Bay Hewitt can partner with you to train your supervisors and managers and make them genuine "enablers" of your organization. We have the leadership and management training courses that will transform your people into high-performing teams. So how exactly do we train people on supervisory or managerial skills?

Forget about endless PowerPoint presentations and just theory-based learning, Bay Hewitt's approach is just the right combination of mangement principles and theories and their application to the context of the supervisor or manager's role and organziation. We use case studies to form decision-making, critical-thinking, and innovation skills in your managers.

So if you're looking forward to increase your organizational performance, you know what to do. Call Bay Hewitt today at (02) 925-1BAY (229) or email us at info@bayhewitt.com so we can help you. Don't wait for tomorrow; now is the time to have transformational leaders, not merely transactional ones.
